Study Aerospace Engineering Degree Course in Malaysia at UCSI University and Transfer to Top Universities Overseas

What is Aerospace Engineering?

Aerospace Engineers design, build and operate aircraft, aerospace vehicles and propulsion systems. This includes planes, jets,

helicopters, gliders, missiles and spacecraft. They are involved in researching, developing and testing new materials, engines, body shapes and structures that may increase the speed and strength of the aircraft.
In addition, aerospace engineers are responsible for planning thorough maintenance programs for aircraft and making sure safety and environmental controls are followed.
Aerospace Engineers use their knowledge of electrical, electronic and computer systems for automatic control and communication systems for the operation of aircraft. Aeronautical Engineering deals specifically with flight vehicles such as airplanes and helicopters. Work in this field is still available, however it is being overtaken by aerospace engineering.
Aerospace Engineers may be responsible for investigating faulty engines or other components, and for developing repair systems. They may be involved in designing improved air conditioning or fuel systems for aircraft or ground based systems for operations such as flight control. They may prepare technical or commercial information when competing with other companies for the manufacture or supply of equipment.

Study Aerospace Engineering in Malaysia

Students in Malaysia can save on costs by studying 2 years at UCSI University for the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (Aerospace Option) and then transfer to the University of Manitoba, Canada for the final 2 years.
The University of Manitoba’s Mechanical Engineering program is ranked 5th among
Faculty of Engineering at the University of Manitoba, Canada

universities in Canada, and 15th in comparison with other mechanical engineering programs in North America.
Accreditation of this program is recognized as equivalent in seven countries outside Canada.
10% of the department faculty, and 17% of the engineering students, are female. A PC-based computer laboratory facility is available 24 hours to students in the department, as well as access to Sun workstations.
Well equipped, modern laboratory facilities enhance course work: biomechanics, wind tunnel, robotics and automation, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, thermal fluid sciences, and polymer composite processing.

The Work of an Aerospace Engineer

Jobs for aerospace engineers in Malaysia are limited so the best option is to study overseas and then try to find work there after

graduating.
Opportunities now exist for research and development into composite material and manufacturing techniques, exploring how products are made.
Many aircraft components are now made from advanced composite materials, such as carbon fibre reinforced plastics. To research and develop these materials, students should go for Chemical Engineering or Materials Science.
There are three main areas of work in the aerospace industry:
  1. design and manufacture
  2. research and development
  3. airworthiness operations
A new graduate engineer may be involved with one aspect of a project such as calculating the type and weight of material to go into a component.
Senior engineers may be in charge of coordinating a whole project, giving other engineers, technicians and draftspersons different tasks to complete, and ensuring that the project meets budget.
They may have to assess mechanical systems, flight characteristics and aircraft performance. This may be done by test flights, measuring take off distances, rate of climb, stall speeds, maneuverability and landing capacities and comparing results with safety standards.
Aerospace Engineers can also find work at commercial airline companies, aerospace manufacturers, government defence

departments and defence forces and in government research laboratories. It is also possible to find work in the automotive industry.
Aerospace engineers design, analyze, model, simulate, and test aircraft, spacecraft, satellites, missiles, and rockets. Aerospace technology also extends to many other applications of objects moving within gases or liquids. Examples are golf balls, high-speed trains, hydrofoil ships, or tall buildings in the wind.
You might develop commercial airliners, military jets, or helicopters for our airways. And getting even more down-to-earth, you could design the latest ground and sea transportation, including high-speed trains, racing cars, or deep-sea vessels that explore life at the bottom of the ocean.

SETARA 2013: The Best Universities in Malaysia Ranked by MQA

SETARA 2013: A Malaysian Ranking System of the Best Universities in Malaysia

Asia Pacific University (APU) achieves excellence in the SETARA 2011 & 2013 Ratings with a Tier 5 ranking
Asia Pacific University (APU) achieves excellence in the SETARA 2011 & 2013 Ratings with a Tier 5 ranking
First introduced in 2007,SETARA focuses on the quality of the teaching; it also gives some power back to the students by involving appraisals by students who will audit lecturers on several points including punctuality and satisfaction on the delivery of subjects.
The MQA Rating System for Higher Education Institutions in Malaysia for 2013 (SETARA '13) is the fourth rating exercise undertaken at the institutional level for universities and university colleges in Malaysia after the SETARA '11, SETARA '09 (using 2009 data) and SETARA 2007 (using 2006 data).
The resulting rating system uses a six-tier categorization with Tier 6 identified as "Outstanding" and Tier 1 as "Weak".
The position of the universities and university colleges in the respective tiers was based on their scores. It is a rating of the top universities in Malaysia.
Using a six-tier category, the SETARA Rating System ranges from:
Tier Six (Outstanding)
Tier Five (Excellent)
UCSI University has produced top A-Levels graduates
UCSI University is upgraded to Tier 5 Excellent Rating in the SETARA 2013
Tier Four (Very Good)
Tier Three (Good)
Tier Two (Satisfactory)
Tier One (Weak)
SETARA’13 evaluated 53 higher learning institutions (IPTs) in Malaysia. It serves as a measuring tool to assess the quality of teaching and learning, using the Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF) for Bachelor’s Degree Programmes.
SETARA '13 is a review exercise involving 54 universities and university colleges that participated.
Forty-two IPTs achieved Tier 5 (Excellent) and 11 obtained Tier 4 (Very Good). None achieved Tier 6 (Distinction).
7 universities which were ranked in Tier 4 in the SETARA 2011 were upgraded to Tier 5 in the SETARA 2013 ranking. One university ranked in Tier 3 in the SETARA 2011 achieved Tier 4 in the SETARA 2013.
No university achieved Tier 6 (Outstanding) rating or Tier 3 and below.

Representing the Best Universities in Malaysia

Upon completion of the Diploma in Communication at HELP University, students can enter into the degree in Communication majoring in Marketing Communications, Public Relations or Media Studies
HELP University is rated Tier 4 or Very Good in the SETARA 2013
EduSpiral Consultant Services is proud to represent some of the best universities in Malaysia that are ranked Tier 5 and Tier 4 in the SETARA 2013 university ranking.
Students should note that ranking systems are just a guide and choosing the best university that fits you should take into consideration the course, lecturers' experience, reputation & experience of the university, facilities, location, budget, student culture, student services, English-speaking student environment, and other factors.

How to choose the Best University in Malaysia to study at

Choosing the right university takes time to decide. You should visit the campus and talk to the staff and lecturers there.Check their facts to see what they say is true.
EduSpiral picked us up from KL Sentral to tour the universities in KL. They provided in depth information which helped me make the right decision for my career. Wen Hao, Biotechnology at UCSI University

See if the environment and facilities are good. EduSpiral Consultant Services takes students to visit the universities' campuses to take them around for a tour and to give them in-depth counseling.
Some students choose their university because their friends are going there, or because their relatives said it was good, or the university was famous or glamourous.
Remember, you are choosing a university that will help to prepare you to work for the next 60 years of your life. If the university doesn't equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills, you would get a low salary for the next 60 years of your life.
When making a decision, it is important to decide based on facts and evidence. Many students have told me that they chose a university because their auntie or uncle said that it was good.
But the question is, "What is their definition of good?" What is actually specifically good about the university?
When we ask these uncles and aunties this question, they would say because they have heard of the university before or someone told them that it was good. Now, that's not a really good guide on choosing the university.
You must make your decisions based on facts and evidence, not on hearsay or gossip that is not supported by statistic, research, report or evidence.
Many students spend more time doing research to buy your mobile phone than on choosing the university. Don't you think spending time doing research and asking the right people about the university that could determine your future is more important? Would you ask a Doctor on how to repair your car?
The best university in Malaysia may not be the best university for you. In order to choose the right university that best fits you, you have to look at a few important points:

Know yourself in order to choose the right university in Malaysia

Choose the university in Malaysia with the best facilities

  • The most expensive universities doesn't mean that they are the best. The university should have adequate facilities in order to run the course.
  • If you do not have opportunities to work with the tools or equipment, you won't get the training needed.

Choose a university with years of experience

  • An experienced university would be approved by the Malaysian Ministry of Education and have its courses accredited by

    MQA.
  • The experienced university would have its courses accredited or recognised by the various professional bodies such as the Board of Engineers MalaysiaLembaga Arkitek MalaysiaPharmacy Board, Malaysian Medical Council, etc.
  • With years of experience, the university would have set in place systems that work, have networks with the industry, and the industry would know the university's graduates.
  • Universities with experience have won awards or their students have won awards in the various fields of study thus providing evidence that the programme there is good.

Choose a university with an English-speaking student environment

How much is the budget you have to study in Malaysia?
  • Many students have no idea how much their parents have set aside for their studies. It is like going to test drive a BMW and then tell the sales person that you don't have the money for it. Don't take it as an insult but it will sure save a lot of time if you know how much your parents have set aside for your studies.
  • Do ask your parents how much they are willing to spend. You can take the PTPN Loan and your parents can withdraw from their EPF for your studies. If you don't plan, you won't get there.
